Body doubling, an ADHD Productivity hack
Do you ever feel like you need some way to actually sit down and tackle tasks and have someone around to break the monotony? Let’s talk about "Body Doubling," – an ADHD hack that gives us the accountability that we need to accomplish those tasks that need to be done.
So, what is body doubling? It is simply having someone around (virtually or IRL) while you work on your tasks. No need for them to help with what you’re working on; they can be there, doing their own thing.
Why does it work? Honestly? Just like knowing that your buddy is going to be coming by gets you to clean your house up, knowing someone is there gets us to be a lot more productive. It's all about feeling "present" and being immediately held accountable. That extra person amps up your motivation and keeps you on track. Think of your task as a favor to your body double, and you'll see your productivity skyrocket.
If you tend to get too focused and forget basic needs due to hyperfocus? No worries – your body double's got your back! Just let them know, and they can remind you to take breaks, eat, drink, and even hit the bathroom. This is also an amazing tool to use along with the Pomodoro Technique for even better time management!
