The Unequal Load in ADHD Partnerships

  • Men's ADHD Support Group New York City, NY United States (map)

Join us for an amazing discussion!

Unequal sharing of responsibilities is something that so many of us with ADHD Deal with. And it is also one of the most common causes of tension and breakdown in relationships—especially for couples where one partner has ADHD.

For many men with ADHD, it can feel like no matter how much they try to help, show up, or do better, it never quite lands—or it isn’t received the way they hoped. These patterns often come from deeper dynamics: parentification of the over-functioning partner, breakdowns in communication, and a lack of clarity around what emotional labor actually is.

In this session, Dusty Chipura, AACC-Certified ADHD Coach and doula, will dig into how men with ADHD can better understand the invisible load their partners are carrying, speak up for their own needs, and build healthier, more balanced dynamics at home.

She’ll share:

  • What emotional labor really means in the context of ADHD partnerships

  • How “trying harder” can sometimes make things worse—and what actually works

  • Why understanding gender dynamics and relationship patterns matters

  • Tools for creating real equality, stronger communication, and lasting support

This session is grounded in a framework that helps illuminate hidden roadblocks and provides practical ways to move forward—for both partners.

Following the discussion, we’ll host a live Q&A for attendees.

With your donation, you’ll get access to this one-of-a-kind conversation, early access to the recording, and help support the Men’s ADHD Support Group in our mission to build community and provide support for men with ADHD.
